Gorilla Glue #4 from WNC
Prepare to be glued to your couch with this incredible 60/40 Indica-dominant blend of Gorilla Glue #4 (GG4), an award-winning strain renowned for its intense physical effects and unique aroma. Grown indoors using organic practices and a coco medium, this specific batch of GG4 offers a phenomenal experience for anyone looking to enjoy the power of a body-focused type 1 hemp flower. GG4 is a super potent cross between Chem Sister, Sour Dubb, and Chocolate Diesel, resulting in an earthy and hoppy smell mixed with that classic Diesel scent that's downright intoxicating.
Buds in this batch range from medium to small, slowly cold-cured for the perfect texture and moisture content. The outcome is an emerald green, resinous buds. This shade of green is a beautiful background for the orange hairs and a smattering of the trichomes which are plentiful, offering a frosty appearance. There are hues of darker colors, adding to its fantastical appearance.
With a THCA content of 23.792%, this batch of GG4 is anything but mild. The cannabinoid profile boasts a total of 24.430% cannabinoids, including 0.638% CBGA. Note that D9-THC is marked as less than the limit of quantification (LOQ), and THCVA and CBCA are not detected (ND).
The Effects
GG4 is known for its heavy, euphoric high that locks you into relaxation mode. I can confirm that this batch lines up with that profile along with strong relaxing and sedative qualities. The physical effects are potent, offering a heavy high that you can feel in your muscles and limbs, which is really what most people are looking for when they purchase Gorilla Glue. I also felt some drowsiness towards the end of the night which, for me, is unusual. For this use case, GG4 hits the spot.
For me, it seems to take a bit more than usual to get any sort of head rush. In order to really trigger any cerebral effects I had to smoke more than a "usual" amount but I definitely got there eventually. I also noticed that the effects were a bit short-lived, but that could be due to my tolerance. Unfortunately, I suspect this particular strain has lost some of it's potency since its infamous ancestors first made an appearance.
I'd recommend this strain as suitable for evening use or when you're looking to wind down. Often utilized for chronic pain, depression, insomnia, and muscle spasms, this specific batch of GG4 may also be effective when mixed with CBD, providing a full-on entourage effect.
The Nose
The smell is pungent, with a sour, piney aroma. The smell is pretty strong in the jar but doesn't travel far however it is that signature GG4 one of a kind smell. (Note: I did not have this strain for more than a day before reviewing so it could still possibly open up more in the jar) Once you grind it up, the aroma is even more intense, with a strong, diesel-like scent with undertones of hops. The taste is similar, with a sour flavor that's smooth and enjoyable. The post grind is still a bit sticky, and the buds get a little fluffier once ground.
Terpene Profile
The terpene profile of this GG4 is particularly exciting, testing at 2.790%. Dominant terpenes include Caryophyllene, Limonene, and Myrcene, contributing to the rich and robust aroma that this strain is famous for. The flavors translate well into the taste, offering a delicious sour sensation with underlying tones of diesel. Some might even detect subtle notes of coffee or chocolate, adding to the complexity and uniqueness of this blend.
The terpenes 'Caryophyllene', 'Limonene', and 'Myrcene' are commonly found in many cannabis strains, and each one has been associated with specific effects and potential therapeutic properties. When combined, they may work synergistically to provide a unique blend of effects:
- Caryophyllene: This terpene has a peppery, spicy aroma and has been associated with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Some research suggests it may help with pain management and anxiety reduction.
- Limonene: Recognizable for its citrusy smell, Limonene is believed to have uplifting and mood-enhancing properties. It's also been studied for its potential anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, and anti-inflammatory effects.
- Myrcene: Myrcene has an earthy, musky aroma and is known for its sedative and relaxing effects. It's often linked to calming sensations and might aid in sleep and muscle relaxation.
Together, this mix of terpenes could potentially offer a balanced blend of mood enhancement, relaxation, and pain relief. While Caryophyllene and Limonene might help lift mood and reduce anxiety, Myrcene's calming effects might complement by adding a soothing, relaxing dimension.
However, it's important to note that individual responses to terpenes can vary widely, and more research is needed to fully understand how these compounds interact within the body.
Final Thoughts
Physical effects effects are strong, and the terpene profile is such a complex blend of earth, sours, and diesels. The terpene profile is particularly exciting, and the cannabinoid content is impressive.
However, for this purchase I give it a 3 of 5 primarily for the following reasons: it could have been a bit stickier and I had to smoke more than usual to get the effects I was looking for. I also felt that the effects were a bit short-lived. I suspect this particular strain has lost some of it's potency since its infamous ancestors first made an appearance.
