Veteran Grown's Headband, A Hazy Citrus Head Hug
Imagine walking into a brewery, with the scents of hops and zesty citrus notes wafting through the air. Now, imagine experiencing that same invigorating experience in a cannabis strain.
Meet Veteran Grown's Headband, a 60/40 Indica-dominant blend that has an aroma so strong it will knock you back with the scent of a double hazy citrus IPA when you open the jar. An excellent pick for those with discerning enough tastes to pair their summer afternoon smoke with a craft beer.
With a THCA content of 24.20%, this batch of Headband is anything but lightweight. The smell is heavy, reminiscent of a citrus hazy IPA, and that odor strength stays consistent after grinding. It's a sensory experience that lingers on your nose, palette, and fingers.
On first taste, I can't help but notice that this is a very smooth and airy hitter that doesn't leave you feeling like you've been punched in the lungs. It's a nice change of pace compared to some of the heavier strains I've tried recently. I'm not joking when I describe the smell and taste after exhale as a refreshing hazy IPA with notes of citrus. The actual inhale however is a bit more earthy and less citrusy than I expected though the Limonene is definitely a strong supporting character. There are also some hints of the classic Diesel flavor that rise and fall throughout the session.
The effects begin with a slight cerebral uplift followed by a tingling and eventually mellowing out to calming body sensation after a bit. The unique "headband" feeling is a hallmark of this strain is prevalent and I can't decide if I love it or hate it. It's a sensation that's hard to describe, but it's a feeling that's hard to forget once you've experienced it.
Genetics
Veteran Grown's Headband comes from a lineage of OG Kush and Sour Diesel, two heavyweight strains that need no introduction. The result is a blend that carries forward the best of both worlds: the cerebral effects of Sour Diesel and the body high of OG Kush.
As for the terpenes, the heavy and consistent aroma points to a rich profile that complements the strain's citrusy character. Though specifics on the main terpenes weren't provided, anyone familiar with the smells of an IPA can hazard a guess at what might be at play here. My guess, and from what I've researched in the past, is that the terpene profile is heavy on the Limonene and Myrcene, with a bit of Caryophyllene to round things out.
Final Thoughts
Unfortunately, this bud is a little dry, it remains that way even after grinding so there's no fluff up. Not a big fan of that, but it did tend to loosen up a bit after a few days in the jar with a Boveda pack. At a total cost of $23.00 for 3.5 grams, the price per gram lands at $6.57 which is still at purchase I'd make again for the strength of the effects alone. I would definitely bump this up to a 5-star rating if the bud was a bit fresher but who knows for sure.
Whether you're a fan of the classics or looking for something a bit unconventional, Headband might just be your next favorite. It's a unique blend of old-school genetics and new-age flavor, wrapped up in a price that won't break the bank.
